Using Safeword

Limits, safewords, and aftercare

A scene works best when its boundaries are as clear as its fantasy. Here is how Safeword keeps those choices visible.

By Safeword

A compelling scene can be intense without leaving your boundaries vague. Safeword separates designing a scene, agreeing to start it, responding while it runs, and settling afterward. Those steps give you opportunities to change direction as your understanding changes.

Set your own words and preferences

Your pause word, safeword, and aftercare preferences are saved in your account's BDSM settings. During a Scene, Safeword uses the words currently configured for you. New reusable scenarios use generic references to a future participant's words. Your personal settings control the words used when you run a scene.

You can also discuss activities, equipment, pace, and limits during scene negotiation. A limit is a constraint on the design, not a creative suggestion. If a practical requirement matters to the scene, the app should ask rather than assume you have it available.

Review, then choose to begin

For a new or adapted scene, the design is presented for review before it runs. You can request changes or save it without starting. An unchanged saved scenario can also be replayed. When you choose to start, Safeword handles an entry consent step. If a later action depends on sustained timing, it explains the conduct and endpoint and asks for readiness before the clock begins.

Pause or stop during a scene

Scene Progress offers pause and safeword controls, and a response control when the Scene needs your reply. The pause and safeword controls put your configured word into the editable message composer. You still send the message; choosing a control alone does not send it. You can also type the word yourself. A sent pause or safeword goes through the Scene's safety path instead of an ordinary scene turn.

For real-world activity: an AI conversation cannot observe your body, surroundings, or another person's consent. Keep any physical activity within your own practical safety plan and stop when you need to.

Take time afterward

Aftercare is a separate, open-ended conversation after the active scene. You can say what felt good, what did not, and what you want to remember or change. It is not a timed task or a feedback form. When you finish, Safeword can save a summary of the run so you can reflect on it later.
